Wimbledon 2011 fashion highlights

Wimbledon 2011 is in full swing, and as usual the tournament has served up some incredible matches. But Wimbledon is not just about the tennis. The world of fashion is always watching closely to see what clothes the stars will rock up to play in. After all, what better place to display all of the innovative stylish yet practical sport fashions? We have seen some true disasters over the years as well as some amazing successes. What have been the fashion highlights so far in 2011? Here are a few outfits that have made the headlines:

Venus’s playsuit

Venus Williams was the first to shock the world this year, with a daring onesie, labelled by most as a disaster. The white-patterned, loose-fitting playsuit with slim gold belt around the centre did not seem like the most practical outfit to choose for an important championship match. The one-piece is actually from her own clothing line EleVen. She was also wearing equally impractical jewellery, including big gold earrings and a large ring. Her dodgy fashion choices didn’t stop her progressing to the second week, though!

Serena’s Nike

The other Williams sister has shown off a much more successful wardrobe this Wimbledon. Her Smash Lawn Dress from Nike met the approval of many, tastefully simple but with black piping and a deep V-neckline for a bit of jazz. You could definitely get away with wearing this on a normal day, or perhaps on an eHarmony date. To find out more about eHarmony click here.

Bethanie Mattek-Sands’s jacket

The second disaster of the tournament, Mattek-Sands graced the court in a jacket adorned with spikes, tassels and white tennis balls. She has already been labelled as the Lady Gaga of tennis, and this new choice of outfit really didn’t help. To make matters worse, under the jacket she was parading a strangely cut top and had bizarre black face paint on both cheeks. Definitely Gaga. Her fashion crimes must have hit her with their karma, as she lost to Japan’s Misaki Doi that very match and thus ended her tournament.

Sharapova’s dress

Sharapova was much more of a success, matching Serena in a fashionable, simple Nike dress. Beautifully fitted, with an elegant grey line in the empire position and then flaring out from the hips, this dress was both classic and extremely stylish. Matched with white visor and silver jewellery, Sharapova definitely claimed the Wimbledon fashion crown. She also managed to recreate a famous photograph during the match.

Take a break from browsing through Christian dating sites and chatting on Facebook – switch on the tennis and be on the look-out for fashion successes and disasters as the tournament reaches its climax.
